Frequently Asked Questions

What is considered a figure?

Adults, children and pets are all considered figures.  A person holding a baby, however, is only considered one figure.

What can I expect once I place an order?

After you've placed your order, you will receive an email with a questionnaire to fill out.  I will use this questionnaire, along with photos that you submit, to guide the designing and stitching of your custom portrait.  Once I have received your completed questionnaire and photo(s), please allow 6 weeks for your cross stitch portrait to be ready for shipping.  Please allow an additional week for your portrait to be delivered.  Due to the custom nature of these portraits, I cannot cancel an order once the questionnaire and photos are received.

What are my framing options?

Framed in Hoop:

Your custom portrait will arrive framed in an embroidery hoop backed with felt.  The hoop will measure between 5-7" in diameter depending on the number of figures,  amount of text, and any add-ons.  Hoops look great hanging directly on the wall, as well as propped up in an easel.

Framed and Matted (+$20):

This framing option includes an 8" x 10" black frame with a white mat, matted to your 5" x 7" custom portrait.  Frames include hardware for wall-hanging and a built in easel to display on a tabletop.

Have a frame already picked out for your portrait?  Your 5" x 7" portrait will arrive mounted on cardboard and ready for you to pop in your frame.

How do I care for my portrait?

The best way to deal with stains is to prevent them.  Avoid excessive handling of your cross stitch and be sure to only touch the portrait with clean, dry hands.  Gentle, occasional dusting is sufficient for cross stitch portraits framed in a hoop.  For minor stains or fingerprints, dabbing the stain with a mix of water and mild liquid dish soap can be effective but be careful to avoid over-saturating the fabric or it may leave a water mark.  Major stains from spills would need to be handled by a professional dry-cleaning service.

What if I'd like more than six figures in a portrait?

No problem, just send me an email!  More than 6 figures will likely exceed a 5" x 7" portrait size, so we'll discuss options and then I can provide you with a quote.

I would like a Capuchin monkey to be standing on my figure's shoulders. Can you do that?

Definitely! I love to add unique, custom elements to portraits.  Contact me with your idea and I will provide you with a quote.  Also, check out the gallery to see more custom ideas!

Does Fritz really stitch the portraits?

Unfortunately, Fritz's T-Rex arms and lack of opposable thumbs prevent him from contributing to the portraits in any more than a supervisory role.  All portraits are hand designed and stitched in Eugene, Oregon by Holli Johannes.
